Let me start by saying that I have a great boss now, and I've never had any problems with any of my past managers either :) That said, I've made "The Boss" the unfortunate main character in the latest little Silverlight physics game I've been creating.

In "Boss Launch," you catapult your obnoxious leader into various targets, trying to knock down enough stuff to reach the next level. This Silverlight 2 game was created using Expression Blend, Visual Studio, the Physics Helper Library, and the Farseer Physics Engine.

This is an intial release, and I'm seeking feedback of all kinds: Bug Reports, Comments, Ideas. Please leave comments in this blog post, or email me. I'm especially interested in any Mac users out there. This game is probably too intense for older machines, and I expect some criticism on performance :P (but when Silverlight 3 releases, that will be quickly fixed).

So, go and give it a try, and remember this is a Beta so be gentle!

Nice app as always. One question... Is there any reason you don't allow the Silverlight area to expand to the size of the browser window? Be nice if you could see both the boxes and the boss at the same time.

Re: Boss Launch Beta    By Anonymous on 3/24/2009 5:47 PM
Good point about the browser size. At this point, it's mostly because of performance. The more of the scrolling regions that are shown, the more CPU and Video card horsepower is required. As it is, it is quite a pig, especially on older PC's and systems with crappy onboard GPU's.

Can't wait until SL3 is released so I can GPU Accelerate :) Then it will be feasible to even go full screen.

It definately needs more levels that get even harder and farther to launch to... also, you should stop it at the final level rather than just repeating the final level over and over... I quit on level 31. Also, to make it more challenging, you can simply reclick on the chair without actually dragging if your previous launch was good distance, just didn't fully knock it all off to retry the same launch over and over and over till successful. I would like to be able to see a zoomed out view so i can see the target at all times I'm aiming... maybe zoom in for the impact.

How about a full screen option with some sort of performance disclaimer?

Re: Boss Launch Beta    By Anonymous on 3/26/2009 6:24 PM
I like the full screen disclaimer idea. On most modern PC's it would actually perform "OK" full screen... I'm also on the Zoom idea - basically reverse the logic that is there now so that you start out Zoomed farther away and then Zoom in a bit after colliding with the targets.

It would be cool if you displayed an angle and power value somewhere.

This was a fun diversion for me. Thanks!

This was fun. TypeIn XXXXXXXXXX to enable mouse pick cheat ! What this does ? Was not able to figure that out. Help. BTW, I got this while launching boss on Moon Bugs.

Re: Boss Launch Beta    By Anonymous on 5/4/2009 8:18 AM
(Thanks for not sharing the cheat) :)

When you type in the cheat code, you will hear an audible ding-ding-ding. Then, after your Boss hits at least one target, you will be able to use the mouse to drag him around on the screen - making it very easy to knock down as many obstacles as you want.

Is there an option to turn sound off that I'm not seeing? Don't need the boss knowing I'm visualizing using them as ammo....
Thanks!
